The bloodroot (
Sanguinaria canadensis) has only one leaf. It loses its flower really early (sometimes after one day) in the spring and all that is left is this awesome leaf. This mighty leaf unwraps from around the flower stalk and then unrolls to this multi-lobed beast of a wildflower leaf. It can be up too one foot across. So if you miss the flower the leaf with be there until fall!
